Hi, I’m Charli. I’m an experienced sports editor with a Master’s in Psychology, a Bachelor’s in Communication and Media Studies, and a passion for storytelling, having delivered compelling pieces for the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Coaches’ Voice, talkSPORT, and more esteemed brands.

The Journey 📈
Chalfont St Peter AFC, my local non-league football club, sparked my start in sports journalism and reporting. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season, having played for the club myself, I started to run the clubhouse bar alongside studying for my BSc degree in Communication and Media Studies from Brunel University London. I quickly saw an opportunity to help improve the club’s digital presence, and I went on to establish and manage the club’s social media accounts while reporting on away fixtures for the website and local press.
Reporting at the grassroots level of football led me to join CaughtOffside as an intern in January 2015. Needing to write 15 to 20 articles per day, it was the perfect training for content creation, and my position was made permanent after three months. In September 2015, I was then offered a full-time role at talkSPORT.com as a Features Writer. I specialised in writing imaginative pieces for the website, while covering breaking news, delivering match reports, and adapting content for social media. I became a key member of a digital editorial team that consistently reached record monthly readership figures.
In late 2017, I moved on from talkSPORT and into the freelance world. Since then, I have worked with the likes of Coaches’ Voice and Touchline, creating compelling content spanning the English Football League, the Olympic Games and the Olympic Movement. I have developed a particular skill of crafting meaningful long-form, human-interest stories that shed light on the highs and lows of a career in elite sport from the athlete perspective, on and off the field, and offer timeless advice and inspiration. These stories have often come from exclusive interviews arranged and conducted by myself.
Understanding the importance of empathy with interviewees and the stories I share, in September 2021 I enrolled on to a BPS-accredited Psychology (Conversion) MSc course with the University of Nottingham, balancing this with my editorial work. I produced a first-class 8,000-word research project on building effective learning environments and passed with merit overall. Now with the ability to draw on the insight and knowledge I’ve gained from an intensive course in psychology, I’m open to a new challenge – please don’t hesitate to get in touch if there’s anything I can help you with.
